What is a High Energy Radiant Light Source (HEPS)?
HEPS is China's fourth-generation synchrotron radiation source, centered around a novel storage ring accelerator featuring extremely low emittance. The HEPS accelerator design team innovatively integrated multiple groundbreaking designs, achieving the highest natural emittance performance among storage rings in currently built or under-construction synchrotron radiation sources. Additionally, HEPS pioneered and implemented a displacement injection scheme based on high-energy accumulation in the booster, opening a new pathway for displacement injection of high-charge-quantity beam bunches.

To date, about 70% of the world's known structures of biological macromolecules: proteins, DNA, RNA, ribosomes, nucleosomes, viruses, etc., are known with the help of synchrotron light.
