China's first nuclear power plant regulator pilot operated safety valve passed the product qualification

On August 13, the “Hualong One Pressure Stabilizer Pilot Safety Valve” successfully passed the scientific and technological achievement appraisal organized by the China Nuclear Energy Industry Association in Chengdu. Following expert evaluation, the product's core technology was deemed independently controllable with fully autonomous intellectual property rights. Its performance indicators meet internationally advanced standards, making it suitable for promotion and application in nuclear power projects with significant social and economic benefits. This milestone marks the comprehensive completion and successful conclusion of China's first nuclear power plant pressure stabilizer pilot-operated safety valve development project. It resolves critical issues for this core nuclear power equipment, advancing the high-quality development of China's nuclear power equipment.
The pilot-operated safety valve for nuclear power plant pressurizers serves as the overpressure protection device for the reactor primary loop system. It is widely recognized as the most challenging equipment to domestically manufacture among nuclear-grade valves. To address this issue, this project was initiated ahead of schedule in 2016 and was included in the China National Nuclear Corporation's “Dragon Ascension 2020” scientific and technological innovation plan in 2017. Leveraging over 40 years of relentless research and deep expertise in safety valves, the Nuclear Power Institute has achieved breakthroughs in high-precision pilot valve and high-capacity main valve internal flow path design/manufacturing, as well as high-capacity safety valve qualification testing. This has enabled a technological evolution from single-function to multi-function, and from low-capacity to high-capacity valves. Concurrently, a comprehensive manufacturing capability and quality assurance system have been established, creating the conditions for domestic production and engineering application of pilot-operated safety valves.
Since 2016, under the technical guidance of the Supervision and Safety Review Center of the National Nuclear Safety Administration and the China Machinery Productivity Promotion Center, have successfully completed the localization and development of the pilot safety valve of Hualong No. 1 voltage regulator, realizing the innovation and leapfrog of China's nuclear power equipment design and manufacturing technology. It meets the demand for the localization of nuclear power equipment for national energy development.
